I'm Nadine. Mother to the Monkey (2 years) and his baby sister (born this January) and married to my wonderful loving husband FreezeM.. I was born August 8 1978, so I'm ... almost 30 (eeeek)! I work part time, although now I am enjoying my parental leave until this summer!

Dry, by Augusten Burroughs

My husband got me a new book from my favorite author Augusten Burroughs for Christmas. I can not wait to start reading it.

The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell.

A must reed for anyone intrested in food and nutrition. The book continues to be an eye opener. I never realized there was so many proof to what food can do to keep you healthy or that it can kill you. *****

Sellevision: A Novel, by Augusten Burroughs

I LOVE Augusten Burroughs. His books make me laugh out loud in a crowded public transport. Though slightly embarrising, it is nothing compared to what his characters go through in his books. *****

No genius. Yet.

Ah! I got some grades back for my exam weeks.

Here, in my little tiny country full of boobage and suckage, we have a 1 to 10 scale for school grades:

1: exam tres suckage
5.5: oof! exam passed
10: you’re a freakin’ genius!

Now the Sweety grades:

English grammar & presentations: 7
I was slightly disappointed about that grade. I can write English, can’t I? Huh? Huh?
Also there was a trick question! Fill in the correct answer (only one answer possible according to the test).

The queen ……………… a beautiful dress yesterday.
A. had worn
B. was wearing
C. wore
D. had been wearing

The answer? I have no clue. For me a, b and c were correct. Enlighten me please.

Introduction to Communication: 8.5
I can communicate!! WOOHOO!

Dutch grammar, spelling & writing: 9
I can write in Dutch better than I can write in English. Zal ik dan maar in het Nederlands gaan schrijven? No, you wouldn’t understand a word I’m saying.

I’m still waiting for my grade for Organisation & Management. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that one. So you should too. Fingers crossed (or “duimen” in Dutch).

Ooooooh Birdman!

or: Mom, I’m going to prison!!!!

Your departure is confirmed.
Here are your order details:

DEPART PIER 41 GATE #2
Ticket may not be resold
for more than face value
ALCATRAZ - GOLDEN GATE
NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

I just booked the Alcatraz Evening Cruise at Blue & Gold Fleet. I'm SO excited. I’m going to prison. Woohoo!!

Booking this cruise reminded me of the romantic Malta evening cruise Mr. Sweety and I went on a few years ago. It was a total disaster. DISASTER. After 2 hours of drinking cheap drinks and eating yucky food the boat became steerless in a Malta Bay. St. Pauls bay. Which you might know from the bible.

- You don’t? Little bible lesson:
The boat of Saint Paul had sunk (at the exact same spot we were floating). The sweet Maltese people rescued him and welcome him. End of bible lesson –

At St Pauls Bay our cruise boat was floating towards St Pauls Rock. Did I say Rock?

And no one of the ship looked like there was an anchor to be thrown into the water to keep us from smashing our little selves to the rock.

Anyways, after floating there for a few hours - it was not typical beautiful warm Southern Europe weather, more like freezin’ Iceland - a little boat with a little Maltese man came to our rescue. After a short visit to the machine room the little man left.

What? Don’t go little Maltese man! Help us! Take us with you!

After 45 minutes he came back with a toolkit. A freakin’ toolkit.

At 3 AM we finally came back to the hotel (stay away from there, it's hell on earth, yet another story, but we escaped to the Golden Tulip hotel Vivaldi, which was lovely) to find a gazillion cockroaches (okay, there were 3 of them, but VERY big) in our hotel bathroom. This was the first time I ever saw a cockroach and they were like the size of my hand. VERY EWW. Did I mention one of them was sitting on my toothbrush? Yes it was. Ewwww. Ewwww. Also I did not know my lungs could produce that much noise.

Where was I? Rock? Ehmm, the end of the story: we haven’t been on an evening cruise ever since. And haven’t booked any 2 stars no chain hotels ever since.

But in just a few short weeks we’re going to prison. Woohoo!

The before picture.

California Dreamin'

FINALLY. We’re done. We have booked all the hotels for our trip to California this winter. We have spend many hours on tripadvisor.com, which was very helpful. Did I say we spend many hours on tripadvisor.com? We did. Many thanks to all the travelers that posted their experiences. It was very enlightning to read about cockroaches, screaming hotel managers, people coming into the hotelroom in the middle of the night and a Hilton hotel that smells like urine. Very intresting. We hope to avoid it all.

The plan? First we fly to San Francisco. We’ll stay there for 4 days and then drive down to Carmel, San Louis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Riverside, Anaheim and San Diego. One night near LAX before flying to NYC to celebrate New Year’s.

And please do spam the comment section with things-to-do-in-California for Sweety & FreezeM.

A holy war in a 80% atheist country?

Since the van Gogh killing, our little country is shaken up. To understand this a bit better: our country has 16 million people and is a little less then twice the size of New Jersey. It’s like a giant village. Everybody knew Van Gogh. In our ‘ tolerant’ country freedom of speech is the heart of our democracy.

As it has become clear that the killing wasn’t a one man show, but an organized terrorist act, our country is divided into Muslims and not Muslims. It’s so wrong. Because it’s not the Muslims who did this. It were extremists.

Can’t they – all extremists - be erased so we all can live happily ever after? Christians, Atheists, Muslims, Buddhas, Jews, Hindus, and all faiths I forgot about – living together in peace & harmony? Imagine.

For those of you who want more info on this: Expatica.com has basically covered everything that happened so far.

Or read: (article from Elitestv.com)

Dutch Politicians in Hiding After van Gogh Murder Dutch police now believe that the muder of film maker Theo van Gogh is part of a larger and coordinated action by radical Muslims to public figures that they feel are 'enemies of Islam.' As a result, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders, two politicians critical of Muslims, have been taken to a safe house by Dutch police. Death threats were made by terrorists against Ms. Hirsi Ali, a former Muslim from Somalia who has been critical of Islam and Mr. Wilders who is a vocal opponent of Turkey's proposed membership in the European Union. The threats were made via telephone calls and on a five page letter attached to van Gogh's body by a knife. The note claimed that Holland was controlled by Jews and called for Muslims to make jihad or holy war against infidels such as the Neatherlands, the United States and specifically against Ms. Hirsi Ali. To her, it read, 'Since you stepped into the political arena in the Netherlands you have been constantly busy terrorising Muslims and Islam with your remarks. With your apostasy you have turned your back on truth and you are marching with the ranks of evil.' The letter shocked many prominent politicians and government officials in Holland. Dutch Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner said, 'It is worrying because it gives the impression that it is not the message of an individual, but a wider organization.' In response, one official said the Dutch government may move to have Islamic militants stipped of their duel citizenship if they hold both Dutch and foreign passports. Van Gogh's accused killer, known only as Mohammed B., will be the first criminal to be charged with murder under Holland's anti-terrorism laws. Eight other radical Islamists were arrested and charged with being part of a conspiracy to murder the controversial film maker. According to police sources, a terrorist bombing in Casablanca is also connected to the murder of van Gogh.

Freedom of speech?

I thought I lived in a Western country.

I though we had a democracy.

I thought we could speak our mind.

But a political murder has taken place, again. Film maker Theo van Gogh (yes far far far family of Vincent van Gogh) was murdered. For speaking his mind and making a movie about Muslim women. The content of this movie was very like my post on Sam a while ago.

He was a great movie maker & artist.

My heart goes out to his family, and even more to our democracy.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands Nov 2, 2004 — A Dutch filmmaker who had received death threats after releasing a movie criticizing the treatment of women under Islam was slain in Amsterdam on Tuesday, police said. A suspect, a 26-year-old man with dual Dutch-Moroccan nationality, was arrested after a shootout with officers that left him wounded, police said. Filmmaker Theo van Gogh had been threatened after the August airing of the movie "Submission," which he made with a right-wing Dutch politician who had renounced the Islamic faith of her birth. Van Gogh had received police protection after its release. Dutch national broadcaster NOS and other media reported that Van Gogh's killer shot and stabbed his victim and left a note on his body. NOS said witnesses described the attacker as having an "Arab appearance."

Click here to read the article

To understand who he was, what he ment to The Netherlands; you can compaire him to the US Michael Moore. But more right-wing. Imagine him being shot having released a new documentairy about Bush. Or any subject.
