I'm Nadine. Mother to the Monkey (2 years) and his baby sister (born this January) and married to my wonderful loving husband FreezeM.. I was born August 8 1978, so I'm ... almost 30 (eeeek)! I work part time, although now I am enjoying my parental leave until this summer!
Dry, by Augusten Burroughs My husband got me a new book from my favorite author Augusten Burroughs for Christmas. I can not wait to start reading it.
A must reed for anyone intrested in food and nutrition. The book continues to be an eye opener. I never realized there was so many proof to what food can do to keep you healthy or that it can kill you. *****
Sellevision: A Novel, by Augusten Burroughs I LOVE Augusten Burroughs. His books make me laugh out loud in a crowded public transport. Though slightly embarrising, it is nothing compared to what his characters go through in his books. *****
I got to be honest with you. I am not a big fan of opera. Call me a cultural barbaric, but I just am not a big opera listener. However. There is this guy, winner of the TV-series 'Britain's got talent', who might have sparkled a little tenor love in me. Heck, I might even buy his CD.
I challenge you to watch his first audition for the show. Without crying. Oh, and pay attention to the judges.
Can anyone watch that without needing tissues?
A little explanation to me not loving opera. That is not genetic. My parents? LOVE opera. Especially my father. When I was younger and he played opera, he would turn up the volume like really loud to enjoy it (like I did with pop music :) For me that was like nails on a chalkboard, (with speakers attached). Resulting in hurting ears and a dislike of opera.
But I might just make my dad proud and buy a CD from this guy.
Have you ever watched a horror movie with the sound turned off? Not THAT scary, right?
Yesterday evening I had a meeting at school. My school is situated in probably the worst neighborhood of The Hague. Seeing drunks and junkies there, is not an exception. It’s one of those projects, where the City tries to upgrade an area with building a university in it. It is better, but so far? Not the best neighborhood.
So, I’m waiting for the tram to come. With my iPod on. Really loud. So I could not here anything else than Goldspot’s ‘Float on’. When out nowhere this drunk guy appears. He looks at me, and starts talking to me. At least, that’s what I think he was doing, I could only hear the tunes of my iPod.
Which was the weirdest thing. Normally I would have been a terrified ‘bit’ uncomfortable. Now I could only hear happy music. So I probably gave him a very odd look. It was a bit like watching a music video. There where a lot of people waiting for the same tram, so that helped me feeling safe. I’m not really a hero when it comes to encountering a strange drunk man in the dark.
This goes on for a while, and my iPod shuffles to the next song (of the great Gotan Project.) Than he stepped towards me, waving his arms (off beat) and steps closer.
Feeling a bit uneasy, I stepped away. And thank god, before the song ended, the tram came. And I got in.
That was a very, very odd experience. A bit like watching a Halloween movie while listening to the Sound of Music’s DoReMi -song.
The Netherlands have their own RIAA, it's called "Brein" that's dutch for "Brain".
The decided that as of now Dutch have enough possibilities to download affordable legal music. They say internet provider "Chello" sells music (can't find it on their website), they say internet provider Planet Internet offers music, (YEAH only when you order ADSL too)! And then there's Yeahronimo, only old AND expensive music.
So "Brain" thinks that's enough legal music for us and they will punish people who offers illegal music on the internet as of now. I think it's f*** up and corrupt since a part the "Brain" has also intrests in Yeahronimo.. Don't they want us to download legal music or what?
Bwah! Couldn't they at least waited 'till we have ITunes? Or Napster?
Friday 31 okt. We went to Moloko @ Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. They're GREAT! Before the show I only knew like 2 songs of Moloko and thought they were so so, but they ROCK! So thanx to D@n for telling us to go with him ;)
We also LOVED the support act: GusGus. We gave them nicknames: Cokey and Dopey because they where acting reaaaally funny. But they were very cool.
My favourite Gus Gus songs:
VIP (sorry, TOO LATE!!)
David (sorry, TOO LATE!! you can still Get their CD @ Amazon.com!)
Heineken Music Hall has a video stream of this concert (without support act) on their website: Cable / Adsl / T1 Modem / Isdn
We went to a 90s party in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago. The party was @ Heineken Music Hall and they have some video stream of the party on their website. I must say it sounded better there :) With a couple of beers :)
Yesterday I downloaded ITunes for PC. Only after I installed it, a message popped up saying I can only buy ITunes tracks if I have a US billing address.
Ofcourse they could have put that on their site so I wouldn't have downloaded this 19mb application!
F*** that!
The only europian "alternative" is Yeahronimo, and it isn't really an alternative. They have ZERO new and popular songs and the old songs they have cost 1,20 euro. That's appr. 1,45$! And even the old songs aren't nice. Screwronimo. Bwah!!
What a girl gotta do to download some legal songs?
